Pubs and Cocktail Bars in Granada: The Best by Street and Area

· Updated:

The best pubs in Granada, Spain, are in three areas: around Plaza Nueva and Calle Hospital de Santa Ana (Eshavira for jazz and flamenco, Garrison for whisky), on Calle Ganivet and Calle San Matías (Pub Ganivet 13, Confuso, La Moderna for 80s and 90s), and on Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcón and Calle Sócrates, the student strip (Babel, Lscandalo). All three are walking distance from the clubs in the centre.

This list comes from two recent local guides, Love Granada (updated August 2026) and Granadadirect (September 2026), plus the bars' own accounts where they have one. Pubs open and close more often than clubs, so if you're heading to one in particular, check its social media that day.

Plaza Nueva and Calle Hospital de Santa Ana

This is where to drink under the Alhambra. Eshavira, up some narrow stairs on Postigo de la Cuna, has been a jazz and flamenco club since 1989, and Love Granada says it stays open until 6am, which makes it the latest bar in the old town. On Calle Hospital de Santa Ana you have three very different options: Garrison Drinks & Music, with a long whisky list and Peaky Blinders decor; El Taller, rustic-modern with Spanish and international music; and Pilar del Toro, a patio bar and restaurant dating from 1789 that's better for a quiet early drink, as it closes around 23:30.

Paseo de los Tristes

A few minutes further up, along the river Darro, El Huerto del Loro, on Cuesta de la Churra behind the church of Santa Ana, has a terrace looking at the Albaicín, good music and art exhibitions. It's a sunset-and-first-drink place rather than a late one. From here, Efecto Club, the small house and techno room on Cuesta de Santa Inés, is the nearest club.

Calle Ganivet, San Matías and Isabel la Católica

Between the centre and the Realejo is the busiest pub area for people who aren't students. Pub Ganivet 13, at the end of San Matías, is a disco-pub with indie nights and themed Wednesdays, open until 4am according to Love Granada; it also runs a monthly Sunday party called Clímax. Grupo Paripé, the people behind Colón Plaza, run Confuso at San Matías 25. And on Plaza Poeta Luis Rosales, La Moderna has a small dance floor with 80s and 90s music that gets packed. From here Vogues, Planta Baja and Colón Plaza are a five-minute walk.

Pedro Antonio de Alarcón and Sócrates

Erasmus Touch calls Pedro Antonio de Alarcón the student street par excellence, and it's where most uni nights start. Directory listings put Amsterdam Café Pub, La Chica de Ayer (Grupo Zeppelin), Perro Andaluz, La Rocka, Amy, Zaguán and Babel along the street. Babel has table football and billiards and music you can talk over, according to Love Granada. Round the corner, Lscandalo on Calle Sócrates plays Spanish music, and Pub Bolera Monge, on Camino de Ronda, has a two-lane mini bowling alley, darts and pool. There are no big clubs here, so the plan is to move on to the centre or to Neptuno after one.

Live music bars

If you'd rather watch a band than a DJ, RocknRolla on Gran Capitán is an underground rock bar run by Grupo Zeppelin with free gigs. Lemon Rock, in the centre, is a restaurant, cocktail bar and gig room in one. Backstage, on Calle Moras, puts on live music on Friday afternoons. And Eshavira programmes jazz and flamenco.

Prices and the free tapa

Granada keeps the custom of a free tapa with every drink, as the city's tourism site explains, so an early round in a bar is also dinner. Bars rarely publish prices. Inside clubs, Student Experience (March 2026) puts mixed drinks at €6 to €16, which is why most people do their drinking in pubs before the club.

Near Neptuno

If your night is going to end at Mae West, 365 or UNY Club, you don't have to start in the centre. Granadadirect lists La Sala, a café-pub inside the Neptuno shopping centre with 80s, 90s and 2000s music, right next to the clubs. Bars in this area come and go, so check that it's open before you set the meeting point there.

From the pub to the club

  • From Plaza Nueva: Granada 10 on Cárcel Baja is a short walk, and Efecto Club is up in the Albaicín.
  • From Ganivet and San Matías: Vogues on Calle Duquesa, Planta Baja on Horno de Abad and Colón Plaza on Isabel la Católica.
  • From Pedro Antonio: Taböa in Plaza de Gracia and Aliatar on Recogidas, or a taxi to Neptuno for Mae West, 365 and UNY Club.
