Things to Do in Granada at Night: From Alhambra Views to the Dance Floor
· Updated:
The best things to do in Granada, Spain, at night follow a simple order: watch the sun go down over the Alhambra from the AlbaicĂn, eat on free tapas from 20:00, have a drink with jazz or flamenco around Plaza Nueva, and end in a club, which opens around midnight and stays open until 06:00 or 07:00. It's a proper party city for its size, with more than 54,000 university students and clubs open every night of the week.
A typical night, hour by hour
| Time | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sunset | Alhambra views | AlbaicĂn viewpoints, Paseo de los Tristes (El Huerto del Loro terrace) |
| 20:00–23:00 | Free tapas | Calle Navas, Elvira, Plaza Nueva, Realejo, Campo del PrĂncipe |
| 23:00–01:30 | Drinks, jazz, flamenco | Eshavira, Hospital de Santa Ana, Calle Ganivet, Pedro Antonio |
| 00:00–07:00 | Clubs | Centre (Granada 10, Aliatar, Vogues) and Neptuno (Mae West) |
Sunset over the Alhambra
Start high. The AlbaicĂn's viewpoints, the best known being San Nicolás, look straight across at the Alhambra, and watching the sunset from there is the classic start to a Granada evening. If you'd rather have a drink in your hand, walk down to the Paseo de los Tristes along the river Darro: El Huerto del Loro, on Cuesta de la Churra behind the church of Santa Ana, has a terrace facing the AlbaicĂn, and Love Granada recommends it for its music and its views.
Free tapas for dinner
Granada is famous for this: almost any drink, whether beer, wine or a soft drink, comes with a free tapa, as Granadadirect explains. Its tip is to avoid the most touristy streets around the Alhambra and to head for Calle Navas, Elvira, Plaza Nueva, the Carrera del Darro, Plaza de PescaderĂa, the Realejo or Campo del PrĂncipe. Timing matters: most kitchens open from 13:30 to 16:00 and from 20:00 to 22:00, so before 20:00 you'll often get just olives or crisps. Three or four rounds and dinner is done.
Jazz, flamenco and live music
Up some narrow stairs off Plaza Nueva, Eshavira has been a jazz and flamenco club since 1989, and Love Granada says it stays open until 6am. For rock, RocknRolla on Gran Capitán puts on free gigs. For bigger concerts, look at what's on at Aliatar on Calle Recogidas, Planta Baja on Horno de Abad or Industrial Copera in La Zubia, which has Love of Lesbian and Arde Bogotá this autumn. One thing to know: El Camborio, the Sacromonte cave club many guides still recommend, now only does weddings and events.

Drinks: Plaza Nueva, Ganivet or Pedro Antonio
Where you have your drinks depends on who you're with. Around Plaza Nueva and Calle Hospital de Santa Ana the bars are quieter, like Garrison with its whisky list. Calle Ganivet and San MatĂas are livelier, with Pub Ganivet 13 open until 4am. And Calle Pedro Antonio de AlarcĂłn is the student strip, full of cheap pubs. Our pub guide has them street by street.
Clubs until 6 or 7am
Granada's clubs open at 23:00 or midnight and close at 06:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 07:00 at weekends. Student Experience notes they only fill up between 2 and 3am. In the centre, Granada 10 sits in an old cinema next to the cathedral, Aliatar in another former cinema on Recogidas, and Vogues on Calle Duquesa has indie in one room and techno in the other. Mae West, the biggest, is in the Neptuno area. For something small and very Granada, Efecto Club in the AlbaicĂn plays house and techno on Fridays and Saturdays until 04:00.

If you only have one night
- First time in Granada: sunset in the AlbaicĂn, tapas on Calle Navas or in the Realejo, a drink at Eshavira, then Granada 10 or Aliatar in the centre.
- Big group, big night: tapas, pre-drinks on Calle Ganivet and a table at Mae West.
- Music first: a gig at Planta Baja or Aliatar, then Vogues for indie or techno.
- Techno: check Industrial Copera's agenda, or Efecto Club in the AlbaicĂn on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Students on a Thursday: Pedro Antonio, then Granada 10, 365 Music Club or Taböa.
Sundays and quieter nights
Not every night is Saturday. On Sundays, Aliatar opens in the afternoon until midnight and Mae West keeps its daily agenda. From Monday to Wednesday, Mae West is the safe bet, Granada 10 opens from Tuesday and Taböa from Wednesday. Efecto Club only opens on Fridays and Saturdays, and Industrial Copera and Complejo Embrujo only when they have an event, so check their agendas before you plan a night around them.
Is Granada a party city?
Yes, and the reason is the university. The University of Granada has more than 54,000 students and calls itself Spain's top Erasmus destination, which keeps the night busy from Tuesday to Saturday during term, not just at weekends: Granada 10 runs its Erasmus night on Tuesdays, Thursday is the big student night and Mae West opens every day. Prices help too: club tickets including a drink cost €8 to €10 in October 2026. Summer is the exception: with the students gone, the centre quietens down.
Getting home
The centre, the Realejo and the bottom of the AlbaicĂn are walkable, and that's where most visitors stay. The AlbaicĂn's upper streets are steep, so a taxi is the easy option if you're staying up there. From the Neptuno area or from Industrial Copera in La Zubia, book a taxi or share one with your group.
